Boost Your Outdoor Decorating With These Ideas.

Rake, clean, and weed. It's spring clean up! Out come the t-shirts we had tucked away in our summer boxes, slide into our rubber boots, and begin to prep our homes, for the warm weather ahead. I noticed for our house, that our back deck needs re-painting again, our windows are filthy and the house siding could use a good pressure wash. The work never seems to end, but I am not complaining. I am grateful for our home.

So let me ask you. When it comes to decorating, is the exterior of your home, equally as important as the interior? Yes, it is!

For the exterior of my home, I like nice simple touches, from my white Hydrangeas, Kimberley Ferns, to some vintage decor. I have the same view on decorating outside as I do for the inside. Keep the decor to a minimum, with pieces you love.

I plan on spending a lot of time outside, from tending to my herb garden, to hanging with family, so why not have a space that I love? I have put together some ideas, to get you inspired as you begin setting up the exterior of your home.

OUTDOOR RUGS

As it is for the interior of your home, the same is true for the outside. A rug will tie your space together. I am a sucker for a good sisal or jute rug. It has that beachy, earthy feel that I simply cannot resist.

Perhaps you enjoy more patterns or textures for your outdoor rug? Luckily, there is such a huge selection to choose from. Here is a couple.

HARDWARE

Did you ever think that just upgrading your hardware, could have such an impact on the overall look for your exterior doors? When we were building our screened-in porch, I did quite a bit of research for the handles, as I wanted something very unique, and stylish. You may have to spend a bit more than average handles, but it is so worth it. They are the jewelry to your doors.

Instead of hanging wet towels on the railing, how about some cute antler hooks to get those pool and hot tub towels dry?

LIGHTING

Great lighting is key to not only being able to see at night but can really add a finishing touch to your exterior design. It can be a nice simple style or a bold choice. Outdoor lighting style can the same as faucet styles for the bathroom or accent walls in your living. It sets your design scheme.

DECORATIVE FENCING

We had a big open space in our back yard, that needed to get more of a defined, cozier look. We did plant some trees, but they take some time to grow. We didn't need or want a privacy fence from our neighbors, we mostly just wanted to outline our property. I have always loved the look of rail fences, and my neighbor who had heaps of them was kind enough to give them to me.

Maybe you like a more modern look to your fence? It all comes down to what you are trying to achieve. There are some impressive designs out there for you to consider.

PLANTERS

One of the traditions I cherish for summer is displaying some Kimberly Ferns. To hold this lush greenery, some handsome planters are needed! When you invest in good quality pots and planters, whether it be wood, concrete, or clay, you don't need a lot of them for your annuals or ferns. Just a couple can bring your deck or front stoop such attractiveness.

ACCESSORIES

Cushions

Decorating with cushions to me is the same as fluffy icing on a cake. It's not complete without it. When taking your decorating focus outdoors, with the many varieties of fabrics and patterns, you can let loose a bit! Why not have some fun with multiple patterns and colors?

Drew Barrymore Collection

How about some vintage flair for your garden? An addition of some cafe chairs, wood benches or tables can give your flower beds some pizazz!

Your patio furniture is all set up, and you are looking for some extra pieces to add to your outdoor coffee table. You can't go wrong with some simple touches from faux boxwood hedge balls, to a coastal vibe lantern. Add fun and decoration with some tabletop wooden games.

Are you inspired? I hope that I have given you some ideas to make your backyard perfect. Now, all we need is some warm weather.
